So I know that today is sunday, but. It also happens to be David Tennant's (the 10th Doctor) 50th birthday! David's rendition of the Doctor during his run from 2005-2010 captivated quite a lot of people, and actually made him a fan favorite for so many people in fact, that some fans prefer to not watch past David's seasons (which I guess is okay, they're just missing out on Peter, Matt and Jodie but that's just my opinion). I will admit that when Tennant gave that first smile, I definitely was in love. Further seasons increasingly enamored me to this character that was parts mad genius, hopeless romantic, and a haunted man with a dark past. He had some of the best story arcs in the reboot to date, as well as some of the best episodes ranging from all three series (especially his season with Catherine Tate. That was a genius pairing with some stellar chemistry if no one minds me admitting that). What's also great is his continued stuff with Big Finish, where the writing is quite genius to say the least. Without further ado, here are 5 of my favorite 10th doctor moments.
Favorite Moment #1:
This. Was comedy GOLD. It was so great and a big breath of fresh air after series 3 had such an emotional and intense finale. Also: cute, non-threatening aliens made out of fat, called "adipose"? Another genius part of this episode. Sometimes I wish it would've been longer, I just loved it so much.
Favorite Moment #2:
I'm gonna admit something, and you better not laugh. Because of this episode, I have been afraid of statues. Like, stone ones. Don't ask me why, because I'm not sure I can explain it without sounding crazy. What makes it creepy is that he says this exact same thing in a voice-over, except to the viewers, so this not only was an episode where the doctor wasn't largely involved, it also broke the fourth wall, and sometimes it's funny. In this case it was not. It left me terrified of walking past any and all stone statues for what I think will be the rest of my life. So thank you SO much, BBC.
Favorite Moment #3:
This one. Is HILARIOUS on so many levels. I'm pretty sure that when I explain why it's so funny that you may be confused, but here goes: Peter Davison is an actor who played the Doctor in Classic Who (1963-1989), and his run went from 1981-1984. Fast forward to the revival series, especially the episode entitled "The Doctor's Daughter" from series 4. Georgia Moffett (now Tennant), the actress playing the titular character, happens to be the daughter of Davison, so she was quite literally the doctor's daughter, in real life. I think the general story is that David and Georgia met during the setup for this episode (script reading, filming; that sort of thing) and fell in love which is honestly kind of adorable. Still with me so far? So they got married, and so the doctor's daughter in real life played the doctor's daughter in Doctor Who, and then went on to marry the actor playing the doctor during that time. In this short, the Doctor (David Tennant) is interacting with the Doctor (Peter Davison), who also happens to be his father-in-law. How I manage to not get a headache when talking about about this is still a mystery to me, but. There you go. I wasn't able to find the whole episode, but this snippet is just so cute and funny and wholesome all at the same time.
Favorite Moment #4:
I know, I know. This one isn't as funny. But you know how you try to act all right about stuff that really isn't, and all it takes for you to open up is someone who will quite literally sit you down and make you tell them, forcing you to be vulnerable? It's never fun, coming from a personal experience, but sometimes, being honest and talking about the hard memories and things will make breathing easier, and it'll even make you feel less weighed down by whatever you might be feeling about it, like guilt, shame, sadness, that kind of thing. Here is where I saw a moment where the hero who seemed like they were okay all the time, sat down and said "you know, I'm not okay, and here's why." Granted he didn't do it voluntarily, but because someone sat him down and made him talk, the friendship between him and his companion got easier. And we always need someone to be there who will really want to know how we're feeling, even if it's not pretty to talk about all the time.
And finally, last but not least, Favorite Moment #5:
This one isn't directly related to the show, but I will watch ANYTHING with David and Catherine Tate interacting on some kind of level. In this skit, David plays a teacher and Catherine a smart-mouthed student during a class on Shakespeare. And yes, that is David's actual accent which makes this skit that much more funny because sometimes Scottish people can be intense when they're mad, but if it's for comedy purposes, it can get to be pretty funny.
Well that's about it for me today, thanks for reading and happy sunday!
